The Adamawa State Police Command has dismissed a viral social media post claiming that the state Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Rev. Joel Manzo, was beheaded by Fulani terrorists.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Police described the post as totally false and dangerously inciting, warning that it could inflame tensions in the state amid recent concerns over US President Donald Trump’s threats of military action in Nigeria over alleged attacks on Christians.
The post, reportedly shared by a Facebook user identified as Lionman Lioni, was described by the Police as a deliberate attempt to cause panic and sow religious discord.
“The Command wishes to categorically refute this malicious claim in its entirety. There is no such incident recorded anywhere in Adamawa State,” the statement read.
Adamawa Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, quoted the state Commissioner of Police, CP Dankombo Moris, urging residents to disregard the report and refrain from spreading unverified information.
The Police also confirmed that an investigation has been launched to track down and prosecute those responsible for the false publication, emphasising that any attempt to incite violence through social media will not be tolerated.
