Nollywood actress Laide Bakare has responded to the backlash that followed her recent remarks about taking her teenage daughter, Similoluwa, to a nightclub.
In a recent interview with content creator Mr Lil Gaga, Bakare revealed that she took her 17-year-old daughter to a club for the first time and allowed her to taste alcohol — a statement that quickly went viral and drew widespread criticism on social media.
Many Nigerians accused the actress of promoting irresponsible parenting and reinforcing negative stereotypes about single mothers.
However, reacting to the controversy in a post on her Instagram page, Bakare said her comments were misinterpreted.
Sharing a video from her daughter’s birthday after-party, the actress clarified that she never said she introduced her daughter to alcohol.
“Let me mention clearly here that I never said I introduced my daughter, @simlineboss, to alcohol,” she wrote. “I only stated that she entered a club with me for the very first time in her life at her birthday after-party. How is that bad naw?”
Bakare maintained that her intention was to create a fun and memorable experience for her daughter, not to promote underage drinking, urging critics to stop twisting her words.
