Acquire Skills For Economic Empowerment, Edo First Lady Advises Women

1 week ago 32

As part of efforts to promote self-reliance and encourage skills acquisition, the Coordinator, Office of Edo First Lady, Mrs. Edesili Okpebholo Anani, has advocated the importance of empowering women through skills acquisition.

This call was made during a meeting with a delegation from New Vision Women Worldwide at the Office of the First Lady, Government House, Benin City.

Mrs. Anani emphasized that skills acquisition is crucial for women’s economic independence, stating, ‘Semi-skilled labour is very essential as a woman. You cannot neglect that part. When you empower women, you’re actually giving them their voice and their strength. And that’s a good thing’

She further encouraged women to take charge of their empowerment, saying, ‘As women, we need to empower ourselves. You have to be independent of yourself. You want to work, you want to have your money. You know that you can do things by yourself, especially what makes you fulfilled and satisfied. The Bible says whatever your hands find to do, do it diligently.’

In her address, Mrs. Faith Obazuwa, President and Founder of New Vision Women Worldwide, congratulated Mrs. Anani on her new role and commended her tireless efforts in empowering women and girls in Edo State.

“We want to congratulate you on your new office as the Coordinator of the office of the First Lady, Edo State. We commend your tireless efforts in empowering women and the girl-child in Edo State.’

Mrs. Obazuwa also highlighted the organization’s primary objective to include equipping women and girls with necessary skills and knowledge to become independent, confident, and supportive partners. ‘We believe that by empowering women, we can create a ripple effect of positive change in our community.’

The meeting culminated in the presentation of a gift and the decoration of Mrs. Anani as the Matron of the Association.
