The Abuja Municipal Centennial Lions Club has attributed its successes over the years to unity and selfless service among members  to humanity.

Lion Charles Aneni, the Club Secretary stated this during the  club’s  10th Year Anniversary, installation of its 10th President, Lion Okonkwo Daniel and Investiture Ceremony in Abuja on Saturday.

Aneni described the anniversary as a “landmark achievement.

The event, which reflected on a decade of humanitarian work, was filled with a sense of accomplishment and excitement for the future on Saturday night.

“I’m very excited and we return all glory to God. 10 years is not a small feat.

“For 10 years we have served selflessly, without being selfish, giving back to the community, to those in need and making sure that we’re putting smiles on people’s faces.

“This period reminds us that the journey still continues,” he said.

The newly installed 10th President, Lion Daniel, outlined his vision for his tenure, with a sharp focus on enhancing education.

“I’m over-excited to be the 10th president; 10 being a significant number”.

Daniel outlined his vision to boost education by providing school desks to the School for the Blind and other government schools in Abuja.

“We are also paying school fees for people whose parents cannot pay in government schools. We want to ensure that the future of our children is guaranteed,” he said.

The outgoing President, Lion Geraldine Anthony successfully completed her term, marked her notable achievement which included the completion and handover of a 90-bed hostel to the FCT School for the Blind in Jabi.

“We built the school, we furnished it and the children moved in.

“When I go there I see how happy the children are and that the facility is being used for the purpose which it was built for. It’s always a great thing for me,” she said.

Anthony urged Daniel to have the heart of Lionism.

“I want to advise that he serves with a heart and mind of a giver because in Lions Club you get to spend, spend, spend but it’s for the good of your community.

“Let him maintain and even improve our vision to serve humanity,” she added.

A long-standing member and  former President of the club, Lion Owulo Ochi, encapsulated the club’s spirit, highlighting its transition from a club to a family.

He also revealed that the club’s next major project,  a fundraising drive to renovate two schools in the Dutse and Durumi areas of the FCT, providing them with chairs and desks.

“Abuja Municipal is not just a club, but it’s a family where we relate together in oneness and in fellowship. I’m proud to stand today to say in 10 years, we’ve given so much.” (NAN)
