Abuja 2026: YS Group Fuels AMAC Chairman’s Second Term Bid

ABUJA – A spectacular show of loyalty and largesse turned Apo into a carnival of support, the YS Support Group showered the Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council, Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, with a staggering N10 million in cash, three branded cars, 12,000 campaign posters, 1,000 T-shirts and caps, and N6 million to boost 12 councillorship candidates.

The lavish presentation, led by the group’s leader Alhaji Yakubu Sa’idu Karshi and represented by Hon. Yakubu Adamu, Grand Commander and Zonal Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) North-Central, left no doubt about the group’s commitment to Maikalangu’s re-election.

Speaking on behalf of Karshi, Adamu praised the chairman’s record: “We want the incumbent chairman to win again because he has done well, he is generous, he is supporting the party and its members.”

He highlighted Maikalangu’s tangible achievements across AMAC, adding, “Our support for Maikalangu to be re-elected is because he has provided boreholes, graded some roads, built primary schools, and health care centers in Gidan Kwano, Busaki, Saurin-Bisa, Takushara, among others. But the resources cannot be enough to go round for him to build these skyscrapers, and that is our reason for him to continue and consolidate on the good works he has done.”

Adamu confirmed that Karshi’s backing would extend beyond the chairman to the 12 councillorship candidates in the upcoming February 2026 elections.

In his response, Chairman Maikalangu expressed heartfelt appreciation for the unprecedented support. “I appreciate YS Support Group that seems it right to assist me and other councillorship candidates. By God’s grace, we are going to use these items to work for our victory. If you work hard you will win and if you didn’t you wouldn’t, but Maikalangu doesn’t work with lazy fellows.”

He urged supporters to intensify grassroots mobilization: “In the next few months on election day I want all of you to get your friends, at least 100, or 50. But if you don’t have up to 50 persons you are not a true supporter of this party. By the grace of God, in the next three months I am expecting two to three votes from each of you on election day.”

APC FCT Chairman Hon. AbdulMalik Usman hailed the generosity of the YS Support Group as a historic moment in party politics. “Today is a day we will not forget in the history of our party in the FCT because it is a day that one of our staunch members felt obligated to assist the party’s candidate in AMAC with money and other campaign materials.

“This is a laudable thing and it’s the first of its kind. We need to show our appreciation and thank him; it’s also a challenge to other bigwigs in the party. We want the incumbent chairman to win again because he has done well, and it is a tradition of our party that whoever does well should be allowed to continue for a second term.”

Hassan Sardauna, Chairman of Media and Mobilization Committee, added that YS Support Group’s approach was unique and groundbreaking: “This group is distinguishing itself from other groups.

“Other groups just dance and wine with the candidate, but this one contributes to the candidate. Maikalangu is the sole chairman that has ever provided, produced and given out scholarships, renovated and created new schools, and other road projects. In terms of social welfare, he empowered a lot of women. This made him stand out to be re-elected for a second term.”
