In its effort to drive school transformation and make education the bedrock of development in Abia State, the state government says it has trained a total of 200 lead master trainers and 2,000 master teachers to enhance its training model.
The State Commissioner for Education, Elder Goodluck Ubochi who disclosed this on Tuesday in Umuahia in a press conference said over 9,000 teachers are being targeted.
The initiative, tagged AbiaFIRST (Fostering Innovation and Reform for School Transformation), is a programme of the state government to make the state a model state in education.
The initiated, being packaged by Governor Alex Otti will be launched in Umuahia on Wednesday, February 26, 2025.
According to education commissioner, the government the package is a comprehensive education transformation initiative to intentionally prepare citizens of the state to be skilled participants in the global village.
Ubochi revealed that AbiaFIRST is being implemented through a strategic partnership between the government and a consortium of education experts, innovators and transformation agents called Education and Innovation Team (ERIT).
He declared, “AbiaFIRST programme represents transformation and encompassing: early childhood development, basic education enhancement, secondary school reform, technical and vocational training, digital learning integration, career education and community engagement”.
According to him, the initiative will focus on institutional reform and school transformation, pointing out that programmes such as digital learning platforms, comprehensive curriculum framework, teacher professional development, enhancement of TVET programmes and robust monitoring and evaluation systems will form the major part of the initiative.
In his comment, the Special to the governor on Education, Mr Kenechukwu Nwosu stated that what the administration is doing is to showcase Abia to the world in terms of quality education.
