Abia LG polls: APGA vows to challenge results in court

Abia State chapter of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has rejected the results of the Abia State local government chairmanship and councillorship elections, vowing to seek redress in the law court.

The position of the party was made known by the State Chairman of APGA, Onuoha Egbe Benon on Tuesday when he addressed the press.

Benon, who said that the results released by the Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC) did not represent what actually happened at the polls, said that there is evidence that APGA won the polls.

According to him, the decision to challenge the results were taken after studying what took place and getting feedback, stressing that his party was convinced that the elections were not free and fair as presented by the Abia State electoral umpire.

“We want to seek redress which is the normal thing after elections. That is the position of our party.

“We are going to court to reclaim our mandate, because we have clear evidence of winning both the LGA Chairmanship and Councillorship”, the party Chairman said.

He alleged that results were announced while collations were still going on, adding that many votes belonging to APGA candidates were under-declared.
