The Catholic Diocese of Auchi in Edo state, has expressed sorrow over the death of seminarian Emmanuel Alabi, who was one of three students abducted during the July 10, 2025 attack on the Immaculate Conception Minor Seminary, Ivianokpodi, Agenebode by armed kidnappers.
The Directorate of Social Communications of the Diocese, Rev. Fr. Linus Imoedemhe, in a statement he issued on Wednesday, recalled that three seminarians — Japhet Jesse, Joshua Aleobua, and Emmanuel Alabi — were abducted during a night invasion on the said date.
Rev. Fr. Linus gave thanks to God for the earlier release of Japhet Jesse and, most recently, Joshua Aleobua, who he said regained his freedom on November 4, 2025.
He however, announced that the third abductee at the time, Emmanuel Alabi lost his life in captivity.
The statement quoted the Bishop of Auchi Diocese, Most Rev. Gabriel G. Dunia, as lamenting the tragic loss, describing it as a painful reminder of worsening insecurity.
It added that the Cleric “called on security agencies to intensify efforts to protect lives and property and urged political leaders to prioritize citizens’ safety above political ambitions as the 2027 general elections draw near.”
The Diocese invited all the faithful and people of goodwill to join in praying for the repose of the soul of Emmanuel Alabi, and for peace, healing, and security across Nigeria.
The church reaffirmed its commitment to the values of faith, peace, and justice, trusting in God’s mercy to comfort the bereaved family, the seminary community, and all those affected by the tragedy.
