Abagana Gun Bust: Police Recover Firearms, Suspected Stolen Cash as Hoodlums Abandon Vehicle in Dramatic Hot Chase

Security operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have dealt a major blow to criminal elements operating within the state, following the recovery of firearms, suspected stolen cash, and other incriminating items during a dramatic hot pursuit in Abagana.

The breakthrough occurred at about 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, when operatives attached to the Commissioner of Police (CP) Special Patrol were conducting an offensive security operation in the area. The operation escalated into a chase after suspected criminals attempted to evade arrest, leading to a crash involving their operational vehicle.

Police sources disclosed that the suspects abandoned the ash-coloured Toyota Highlander, with registration number UWN 680 PE, at the scene of the accident and escaped on foot. A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the recovery of one pump-action rifle, one locally fabricated single-barrel rifle, and cash totaling ₦636,700, believed to be proceeds of criminal activities, alongside other incriminating materials.

The incident, which caused momentary tension in Abagana, underscores the growing resolve of the Anambra State Police Command to deny criminals freedom of movement, particularly as the festive season approaches and traffic volumes increase across major towns.

Although the suspects remain at large, police authorities confirmed that intelligence-led operations have been intensified to track down and apprehend all those involved. The recovered items have been secured for further investigation, while efforts are ongoing to establish the source of the arms and the origin of the recovered cash.

Reaffirming its commitment to public safety, the Anambra State Police Command assured Ndi Anambra that proactive patrols, targeted stop-and-search operations, and rapid-response policing remain in force to protect lives and property across the state.

Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and continue to cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and credible information that could aid ongoing investigations.

Further developments are expected as the manhunt continues.
