AAC Reacts To Anambra Guber Election, Says It’s Marred By Irregularities

LAGOS – The African Action Congress (AAC) has reacted to last week’s governorship election in Anambra State, saying that it is profoundly dissatisfied with its conduct and outcome.

It would be recalled that AAC fielded Chioma Grace Ifemeludike in the election.

However, after the poll, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the incumbent governor, Charles Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) as the winner of the excercise, which several observer groups said was characterised by massive vote buying.

A statement signed by the party’s Campaign Publicity Secretary, Chimezie Nwokeanochie, said that its observations, as well as credible reports received from its agents and independent monitors across the state, indicated that the process was marred by widespread irregularities and violations of established electoral procedures.

It stressed: “These include breaches that compromised the secrecy of the ballot and undermined the integrity of the vote.

“The AAC firmly maintains that elections must be transparent, credible, and reflective of the genuine will of the people.

“The anomalies witnessed during this exercise fell short of these democratic standards and had, regrettably, eroded public confidence in the process.”

The statement continued: “Accordingly, the African Action Congress (AAC) rejects the declared results of the November 8, 2025 governorship election in Anambra State.

“We call for a comprehensive, transparent investigation by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other relevant authorities to address these serious concerns and uphold the sanctity of the electoral process.”

The AAC said it would continue to remain committed to the advancement of democracy, justice, and good governance in Nigeria.

It added: “We will continue to pursue all lawful and democratic means to ensure that the voice of the people of Anambra State is heard and respected.”

Meanwhile, the AAC candidate, Ifemeludike, has invited the 292 people who voted for her to a luncheon on Saturday.

The luncheon, which would include an interactive session on the election and the way forward, would take place at Golpind Suites, Unizik Junction, Awka, Anambra State and would commence by noon.

According to her, her media stakeholders would be expected to be present at the luncheon, which was meant to show appreciation for their support and trust.
