The Abdull Aziz Atta Memorial College (AAAMCO), Okene, Kogi State, Class of 1981 recently held a vibrant and memorable three-day reunion in Ilorin, from September 5th to 7th, 2025.

The reunion, themed “One Life, Live It!,” brought together alumni from across Nigeria and the diaspora to celebrate 44 years of friendship, professional accomplishments, and the enduring values instilled in them by their alma mater.

AAAMCO, founded nearly a century ago and named after the distinguished statesman Abdul Aziz Atta, has long been recognised as one of Northern Nigeria’s most respected schools.

The institution boasts a rich history of producing notable alumni who have made significant contributions in various fields, including medicine, engineering, law, politics, business, and public service.

For the Class of ’81, the reunion was a poignant reminder of the formative years spent within AAAMCO’s walls.

The classmates began their journey together on September 3, 1976. The reunion date was deliberately chosen to align with the date 44 years ago. What began as youthful encounters blossomed into a strong brotherhood that has stood the test of time.

Alumni relived old routines, including morning exercises and friendly table tennis matches. They also reminisced over “Anchupe,” the cherished bread and soup breakfast that was a Tuesday delight.

The class visited two former principals, Chief I.A.O. Afolayan, who at over 100 years old, shared fond memories of his time leading the school. They also visited the widow of Mr. Onaadepo, their former literature teacher. Both were presented with plaques and cash donations in gratitude for their invaluable role in shaping the students.

The event was meticulously organised by a dedicated committee, chaired by Nelkon, and supported by Shola Opadere, Abubakar Danlami, Biodun Saliu, Stephen Majebi, Simeon Abikoye, Bode Osatuyi, Kosamotu Sule, and many other dedicated classmates.

In his welcome address, Class President Bayo Mokelu urged his classmates to remain united, grateful, and to truly embrace the reunion’s theme, “One Life, Live It!”

A major highlight was the evening lunch, where Prof. Omotesho of the University of Ilorin, a respected member of the AAAMCO Class of ’74, addressed the Class of ’81.

His reflections on discipline, service, and the importance of lasting friendships resonated deeply with the audience. Prof. Omotesho and his wife were also honoured with gifts, eliciting a warm response.

Awards, cell phones and commemorative plaques were presented to deserving classmates, while generous donors were specially recognised for their contributions.

Beyond the reminiscing, the reunion also served as an opportunity for rededication. The Class of ’81 paid tribute to their departed classmates and pledged ongoing support for each other, their alma mater, and the broader community.
