Over 200 players are set to grace the fairways of the Benin Club Golf Section (BCGS) for the much-anticipated Dr. Jackson Gaius Obaseki @ 80 Golf Tournament, scheduled to tee off tomorrow.
The invitational event celebrates the 80th birthday of the distinguished former Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), bringing together golfers from across Nigeria and beyond.
Unveiling the tournament on Sunday, BCGS Captain Stephen Ebaretonbofa described it as a fitting tribute to the octogenarian, noting that the event is organised by the club’s Management Committee alongside other notable members. “Friends, family, and golfing buddies will gather to mark this milestone, sharing stories, laughter, and a few swings on the course,” he said.

The tournament spans four days, beginning with the Caddies’ day today followed by professional golfers taking to the course on Thursday. Friday promises friendly rivalry among veteran ladies and men, super veteran men, ladies with handicaps 29–26, and men with handicaps 19–28, offering a platform for skill display and spirited competition.
The grand finale on Saturday will see the best of the best compete in the regular categories for ladies (hcp 0–28) and men (hcp 0–18). The championship will conclude with a celebratory dinner and prize presentation, capping off a spectacular four-day event that honours Dr. Obaseki’s legacy while fostering camaraderie among Nigeria’s golfing community.
