Kylian Mbappe has issued a blunt warning to his Real Madrid teammates after their 1-1 draw with Girona, insisting the team must “change the dynamic” as Barcelona tighten their grip at the top of La Liga.
The French forward aired his frustration on Instagram following Sunday’s stalemate, which marked Madrid’s third consecutive away match without a win and prevented them from reclaiming first place.
Madrid held again as Barcelona retain top spot
Real Madrid’s title push stalled once more after Azzedine Ounahi fired Girona into a first-half lead. Mbappé equalised from the penalty spot, but Xabi Alonso’s side failed to convert periods of pressure into a second goal.
Madrid had a Vinícius Júnior effort ruled out, saw another Mbappé strike disallowed for handball, and relied on Thibaut Courtois to keep them in the game.
The dropped points came just 24 hours after Barcelona defeated Alavés, leaving Madrid second in the table, one point behind the defending champions.

Mbappé: ‘We need to change the dynamic’
Mbappé did not hide his irritation after the match, delivering a message about the team’s recent slump.
“This isn’t the result we wanted tonight… We need to change the dynamic and show who we are as a team,” he posted.
He added that the performance fell below expectations despite the long season ahead:
“Absolutely not the result we wanted tonight, but the league is still on and very long.”
The 25-year-old scored his 14th league goal of the campaign but struggled to influence open play as Girona compressed space and limited his supply.
Pressure builds on Alonso as away form worsens
Madrid’s draw extends a worrying trend of flat displays on the road, coming after successive away stalemates.
The five-point cushion they held after El Clásico has evaporated, placing increased criticism on Alonso’s management.
Issues in midfield balance, lack of sustained control, and over-reliance on individual moments were again highlighted at Montilivi.
But despite the structural flaws, Mbappé continues to deliver at an elite level, joining Cristiano Ronaldo as only the second Real Madrid player to score 53+ goals in a calendar year.
Madrid now turn their attention to a demanding trip to face Athletic Club at San Mamés, a venue where visiting teams routinely struggle.
