Fintiri Denies Ordering School Closure in Adamawa

Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has strongly refuted circulating rumours that his administration ordered the closure of schools across the state over insecurity, describing the claim as “completely false, malicious and mischievous.”

In a statement issued on Saturday by his Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou, the governor said no directive has ever been given to shut down schools and that academic activities are continuing uninterrupted.

“At no time did the government direct the closure of schools, and we have no intention of doing so,” the statement read.

“This baseless rumour is the handiwork of mischief-makers who want to cause panic and tarnish the image of the government.”

Governor Fintiri warned that the administration will not hesitate to invoke the full weight of the law against individuals or groups deliberately spreading falsehoods capable of disrupting public peace.

He urged parents, teachers, students and the general public to disregard the fake news and continue normal school activities, while reassuring citizens that security agencies remain on alert to protect lives and property.

The governor emphasised his administration’s massive investment in education and vowed that no amount of misinformation will derail efforts to reposition the sector and guarantee quality learning for Adamawa children.

In a related development, Governor Fintiri on Saturday inaugurated members of the National Council on Livestock Development and its Technical Committee in Yola, calling for increased federal support for Adamawa’s livestock transformation programmes.

Represented by Deputy Governor Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, the governor appealed to the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development to fast-track approval of the state’s Natural Resource Fund Grant Application submitted to President Bola Tinubu in May 2024.

The proposal focuses on improving livestock productivity and reducing herder-farmer conflicts through effective use of grazing reserves and the establishment of model ranches under the National Livestock Transformation Plan.
