Lagos police women kick off 70th anniversary with 5km walk against gender-based violence



The Lagos State Police Command’s women personnel  weekend  inaugurated activities marking the 70th anniversary of Nigeria Police Women with a powerful 5km Walkathon Against Gender-Based Violence (GBV). 

The event celebrated seven decades of courage, resilience, and dedicated service while renewing the Command’s commitment to social advocacy.

This was  contained in a statement by the Command‘s  spokesperson, SP, Abimbola Adebisi.

Blueprint reports that the walkathon saw a large turnout of policewomen, demonstrating unity and a renewed pledge to combat all forms of GBV in Lagos state.

 They were joined by representatives from the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA).

The advocacy effort was led by the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, who walked alongside the women in a strong show of institutional support.

He was accompanied by the most senior female officer in the Command, ACP Mary Ayim, (Assistant Commissioner of Police, Administration), as well as all female Area Commanders and female Divisional Police Officers (DPOs).

According to the statement “The walk commenced from the State Headquarters, proceeding through Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way, effectively engaging members of the public and amplifying awareness on the urgent need to eliminate gender-based violence across the metropolis.”

In his address, CP Olohundare Jimoh, applauded the outstanding contributions of policewomen to the Command, highlighting their significant roles in crime prevention; apprehension of criminals and administrative leadership

He emphasized that the women’s dedication continues to strengthen the operational effectiveness of the Lagos State Police Command and deepen community trust.

The Commissioner reaffirmed the Command’s unwavering commitment to supporting women in policing and to partnering with relevant agencies to ensure the protection and safety of all residents, particularly survivors of gender-based violence.
