Newcastle United finally broke their long-running away-day drought in fine fashion, producing a high-velocity performance to dismantle Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium and hand Eddie Howe a 48th birthday he won’t forget.

The visitors hadn’t won on the road in the Premier League since April, but they set the tone instantly, executing with purpose and aggression from kick-off.

Newcastle struck after just 55 seconds, the fastest goal of the Premier League season, when Malick Thiaw rose above Michael Keane to head in Lewis Miley’s in-swinging corner. It was the defender’s first goal for the club.

Everton did salvage a late cosmetic goal through Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, who expertly brought down James Tarkowski’s long ball before guiding his finish past Aaron Ramsdale. But it made no substantive impact on the outcome.
