NIS Confirms Deadly Attack on Bakin Ruwa Checkpoint in Kebbi

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has confirmed that unidentified gunmen launched a deadly attack on its Bakin Ruwa Checkpoint in Tuga, Arewa Local Government Area of Kebbi State, on Thursday night.

In a statement issued in the early hours of Friday by the Service Public Relations Officer, DCI Akinsola Akinlabi, the heavily armed assailants struck at approximately 10:00 p.m., killing three immigration personnel on duty.

The attackers also set ablaze operational vehicles, the checkpoint building, and other critical facilities before fleeing into the night.

Comptroller General of Immigration, Mrs Kemi Nandap, has ordered an immediate and robust response, including:

  • Deployment of additional tactical units and reinforcements to the axis.
  • Intensified joint operations with the military, police, and other sister agencies.
  • Heightened intelligence gathering and 24-hour patrols along the Tuga border corridor.

While investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend the perpetrators continue, the NIS urged border communities and the general public to remain calm and volunteer credible information that could assist security agencies.

The Bakin Ruwa attack is the latest in a string of assaults on security formations along Nigeria’s porous northern borders.
