AfroSport secures free-to-air rights for 2025 AFCON

Football fans across Nigeria are set for an exciting festive season after AfroSport confirmed it has secured the Free-to-Air (FTA) broadcast rights for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.

AfroSport’s Content Director, Deji Omotoyinbo, said the agreement with CAF and rights holders NWTV followed months of technical engagement and strategic planning, ensuring that every Nigerian household can access live AFCON coverage without subscription fees.

He said the deal reinforces FTA television as Nigeria’s most reliable and accessible broadcast platform, with millions of viewers expected to enjoy uninterrupted nationwide coverage throughout the tournament.

All matches will air on AfroSport’s extensive FTA network, including NTA and BON, supported by affiliate stations to guarantee wide reach, even in rural areas.

Omotoyinbo added that technical teams are preparing enhanced production features, with pre-match analysis, expert commentary and fan-focused programming accompanying live broadcasts.

He noted that AfroSport aims to promote national unity by offering shared viewing experiences during one of Africa’s biggest sporting events.

Chief Consultant Akintunde-Johnson Bada said the partnership reflects CAF’s confidence in AfroSport’s capacity to deliver high-quality nationwide coverage.

“We are proud to receive CAF’s trust and deliver this important event to every Nigerian home,” he said, noting that AFCON 2025 comes at a crucial time given rising national expectations.

NWTV Managing Director Nimonka Kolani added that the agreement keeps fans closely connected to the Super Eagles throughout the tournament.

“By securing these rights, AfroSport ensures all Nigerians can follow their heroes in Morocco,” he said.

Kolani also praised CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe’s leadership for supporting partnerships that broaden football engagement across Africa.

Nigeria will open its Group C campaign on December 22 against Tanzania, before facing Tunisia on December 27 and Uganda on December 30.
