Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, on Friday paid a condolence visit to Senator Chris Ngige, former Minister of Labour and Employment, following last Thursday’s attack on Ngige’s convoy in Idemili North Local Government Area.
The attack along the Nkpor–Nnobi Road claimed the life of an unidentified woman and left a police orderly injured.Obi, who was abroad when the incident occurred, said he proceeded directly to Ngige’s home in Alor upon returning to Nigeria to commiserate with him and thank God for preserving his life.
In a statement posted on his verified X handle, Obi described the attack as “painful and totally unacceptable,” adding that it was another grim reminder of the escalating insecurity and senseless loss of lives across the country.
He called for urgent, coordinated action from all tiers of government and active citizen cooperation to reverse the tide of violence.
“This unfortunate incident reinforces the urgent need for more coordinated and effective security measures by the government at all levels, and with the active cooperation of citizens, to reverse the rising tide of insecurity in our country. No Nigerian should live in fear, and no one should lose their life in such senseless circumstances,” Obi wrote.
The former Anambra governor also extended heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased woman, stressing the need for a Nigeria where human life is sacred and citizens can move freely without fear.
“My thoughts and prayers are with the family of the woman who lost her life. We must remain committed to building a Nigeria where the sanctity of human life is upheld and where every citizen can move freely and safely,” he added.
