Legendary Nollywood Actor Chief Kanran Passes Away


Veteran Nollywood actor Olusegun Akinremi, widely known as Chief Kanran, has passed away at 70.

Seun Oloketuyi, a movie executive and producer, revealed on Instagram Friday that the veteran actor had passed away earlier in the day.

He wrote, “Popular actor Segun Remi popularly known as Chief Kanran died Friday morning. Details soon.”

Chief Kanran was a celebrated figure in the Yoruba film industry, known for his unique style, sophisticated presence, fondness for luxury, sharp wit, and powerful performances that captivated audiences on stage and screen for decades.

He started his career in theatre before transitioning to television and film, featuring in numerous Yoruba stage productions and gaining recognition through a popular NTA drama series. His popularity soared with his performances in Yoruba movies.

Throughout his career, he appeared in numerous notable films such as Ewe Orun, Aiye, Efunsetan Aniwura, Agbarin, and Bata Wahala. He was particularly celebrated for playing authoritative roles, often depicting kings, chiefs, or village elders.

At the time of filing this report, the cause of his death had not been disclosed.
