Zangon Kataf: Community organises workshop to end rape in Kaduna LGA  



 

In a significant and timely initiative aimed at addressing the alarming rise of rape and other forms of gender-based violence in Zangon Kataf local government area and its surrounding communities, the Community Dialogue Committee (CDC) has convened a one-day workshop designed to engage key stakeholders in a collaborative effort to combat the issues. 

The workshop took place at the Maryamu and Yakubu Skills Acquisition Center in Ungwan Wakili, Zangon Kataf, Wednesday, drawing participants from various sectors, including security agencies, traditional leadership, religious organizations, and civil society groups.

The chairman of the Community Dialogue Committee, His Highness, Luke Adankat, opened the workshop with a heartfelt address, stating the urgent need for collective action in light of the troubling statistics surrounding sexual violence in the region. 

He expressed deep concern over the increasing number of reported cases of rape, adding that the situation has reached critical levels that can no longer be ignored.

 “The rate of sexual harassment occurring in our communities has escalated alarmingly,” Adankat remarked, while urging all stakeholders to unite to address and eradicate the pervasive issue.

Adankat highlighted the importance of collaboration among various sectors of society, including security personnel, traditional leaders, and religious figures. 

He called for a multi-faceted approach to tackle the root causes of gender-based violence and added that it is not only women’s issue but a societal one that affects everyone.
