

The Anglican Diocese of Kaduna has announced the death of the Priest-in-Charge of Ebenezer Anglican Church, Ungwan Maijero, Venerable Edwin Achi.
Ven. Achi was abducted alongside his wife and daughter on October 28, 2025, Blueprint.ng reports,
Achi was seized when bandits invaded his residence in Nissi community, Chikun Local Government Area (LGA) of Kaduna state.
The family had only recently relocated to the community when the attackers struck.
The kidnappers later demanded N600 million ransom.
Achi hailed from Umuaja in Ukwuani LGA of Delta state.
Confirming his death in a statement on Wednesday, the diocese described the development as “a painful loss to the entire diocese, the clergy, the church family, and all who were blessed by his faithful ministry, humble spirit, and unwavering devotion to the service of God.”
It added that his wife and daughter remain in captivity.
“We continue to pray for the release of his wife and daughter who are still in the hands of kidnappers,” the diocese stated.
The church also announced the cancellation of its Stand Up for Jesus 2025 programme in honour of the late cleric.
“On this note, the Stand Up for Jesus 2025 is hereby cancelled in honour of the late Venerable Edwin Achi,” it said.
The diocese ended the statement with a message of faith and consolation to members and the wider church community.
