Al Jazeera has confirmed the death of one of its journalists in an Israeli strike on Gaza, less than two weeks after the network lost six staff and freelancers in a similar attack.
The journalist, Mohammad Salama, who worked as a photojournalist and cameraman, was killed on Monday in a strike that targeted a medical complex, leaving 14 people dead, according to the Qatar-based broadcaster.
His death was “confirmed,” a spokesperson for Al Jazeera told AFP.
The latest tragedy comes shortly after four Al Jazeera staff members and two freelancers were killed in an Israeli air strike near Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza City earlier this month, an incident that drew widespread condemnation.
Mahmud Bassal, spokesperson for Gaza’s Civil Defence, reported that 14 people, including journalists, died in the latest attack. He explained that an Israeli explosive drone struck a building at Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, followed by an airstrike as rescuers attempted to evacuate the wounded.
The renewed attack on journalists has sparked further concerns about press safety and the targeting of media workers in conflict zones.
