Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, has concluded high-level talks in Doha with Qatari officials on a strategic partnership to tackle Nigeria’s out-of-school children crisis, with special focus on transforming Almajiri education.
During the bilateral meeting, Dr. Alausa held discussions with Qatar’s Minister of Education and Higher Education, Her Excellency Lolwah bint Rashid Al Khater, as well as the Director General of the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD), Mr. Fahad Hamad Al-Sulaiti, and the CEO of Education Above All (EAA), Mr. Mohammed Saad Al-Kubaisi.
The Nigerian delegation presented the country’s national plan, which includes large-scale training of Mallams (traditional Islamic teachers), upgrading Tsangaya school infrastructure, and strengthening the 33 bilingual schools built by the Islamic Development Bank across 11 states.
Dr. Alausa emphasized Nigeria’s resolve to reintegrate millions of out-of-school and Almajiri children into quality education by improving literacy, numeracy, vocational training, and creating safer, more inclusive learning environments.
Both sides expressed strong commitment to the initiative. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Education and Qatari institutions, including the Ministry of Education, Education Above All, and QFFD is expected to be finalized and signed in early 2026.
The partnership aims to deliver scalable, sustainable solutions that will expand access to modern education for vulnerable children and contribute to long-term national stability and human capital development in Nigeria.
