A fire outbreak at a diaper factory in Nnewichi, Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra, on Wednesday destroyed property worth millions of naira.
Mr Chukwudi Chiketa, the Fire Chief of the Anambra Fire Service, made this known to newsmen in Onitsha.
Chiketa revealed that the quick intervention of fire service personnel prevented the blaze from spreading to an adjoining gas plant in the vicinity.
He said that although some buildings were affected, firefighters were able to contain the fire and prevent further damage to the company that deals in baby diapers.
He noted that no casualties were recorded, adding that the cause of the fire was traced to a suspected explosion at the company.
An eyewitness, Obinna Okoye, said the fire, which started around 5:30 a.m., took the neighbourhood by surprise, as residents were still fast asleep when the incident occurred.
Okoye lauded the firefighters for their prompt intervention, which he said helped prevent the fire from spreading to surrounding buildings.
