SGF Approves Terminal Leave for NEITI Boss Orji Ogbonnaya Orji

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, has approved the request by the Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI), Dr. Orji Ogbonnaya Orji, to proceed immediately on his statutory pre-retirement terminal leave.

Dr. Orji’s single five-year tenure is scheduled to end on 19 February 2026. His decision to begin terminal leave now was voluntarily communicated to the SGF in strict compliance with Public Service Rules.

In a statement, the SGF, who also chairs NEITI’s National Stakeholders Working Group (NSWG), commended Dr. Orji for his exemplary leadership and far-reaching reforms that strengthened transparency and accountability in Nigeria’s extractive sector.

On behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the NSWG, Senator Akume expressed profound appreciation for Dr. Orji’s distinguished service to the nation and the global Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) community, while extending best wishes for his future endeavours.

Arrangements for the appointment of an acting Executive Secretary and the commencement of the process for a substantive successor will be announced in due course.
