Adamawa Police Arrest Two Officers for Shooting at Vehicle During Checkpoint Stop

The Adamawa State Police Command has detained two of its officers attached to Jimeta Division for alleged unprofessional conduct after one of them fired shots at the tyres of a Mercedes 180 during a routine checkpoint search near River Side, Jimeta.

Police authorities described the use of live ammunition as “unnecessary, improper and contrary to standard operational procedures,” stressing that no life was threatened and the occupants of the vehicle had only resisted a search.

Commissioner of Police, Dankombo Morris, ordered the immediate arrest and full investigation of the officers, who remain in custody pending the outcome of disciplinary proceedings.

In a statement issued on Monday in Yola by the Command’s spokesperson, Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, the CP reassured residents that the Command is committed to professionalism, discipline and respect for citizens’ rights, adding that appropriate sanctions will be applied if the officers are found culpable.

The incident is the latest in a string of misconduct cases involving checkpoint duties across the country.
