The Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Hon. Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, has extended a hand of support to the victims of a recent, devastating and forceful eviction in the Kuchibedna community of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The council, demonstrating concern for the affected indigents, donated essential food items and relief materials to help cushion the immediate hardship faced by the displaced, including bags of rice, bags of beans, cartons of Indomie noodles, cartons of cooking oil, among others.
The relief materials were presented on behalf of Maikalangu by his Senior Special Assistant on Projects, Tpl. HRH. Stephen Jacob Garki.
The items were received by Hon. Tanko Yamawo, the former Coordinator FCT on Satellite Town Development, who accepted them on behalf of the displaced indigenous people.
Speaking during the presentation, Tpl. HRH. Stephen Jacob Garki, emphasised the council’s commitment to the welfare of its citizens, especially the indigents of AMAC and stressed that the donation was a temporary measure to address the immediate food crisis following the destruction of their ancestral homes and livelihoods.
“The forced eviction, which rendered many families homeless, is a deeply regrettable event. AMAC, under the leadership of the Executive Chairman, is dedicated to ensuring that no indigene or resident suffers unduly.
“This donation is to provide immediate relief, and we urge all stakeholders to pursue peaceful and humane means of resolving land disputes in the future,” the SSA stated.
Hon. Tanko Yamawo, upon receiving the items, thanked the AMAC Chairman for the timely intervention.
He reiterated the appeal for long-term solutions, urging the FCT Administration and other relevant agencies to intervene in the plight of the Kuchibedna victims, to ensure they are justly compensated or properly resettled.
