Reggae legend Jimmy Cliff passes away


Iconic Jamaican reggae star Jimmy Cliff, born James Chambers, has died at the age of 81.

His death was announced by his wife, Latifa Chambers, who said he passed away after experiencing a seizure followed by pneumonia.

Cliff life, legacy

Cliff was a major figure in the global spread of reggae music, known for timeless songs including “You Can Get It If You Really Want,” “Many Rivers to Cross,” and his cover of “I Can See Clearly Now.”

His influence extended into film, most notably with his starring role in the 1972 movie The Harder They Come, which helped bring Jamaican culture and reggae to an international audience.

Over his long career, Cliff received numerous accolades, he won two Grammy Awards, earned Jamaica’s Order of Merit, and was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
