Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, has called on the Kebbi State Government to immortalize the slain Vice Principal of Federal Government College (FGC) Maga Mr. Zakariyya Isah, by renaming the institution after him.

Tajudeen made the appeal on Monday, November 24, 2025, during a condolence visit to the Governor of Kebbi State in Birnin Kebbi following the recent bandit attack on the college that claimed Mr. Isah’s life.

Mr. Isah lost his life when armed bandits invaded the college, a tragic incident that has again drawn attention to the persistent insecurity troubling parts of the North-West.

Condemning the assault as “barbaric and senseless,” the Speaker said the late Vice Principal died in the line of duty, standing firm to protect the students under his care, and that such courage should be nationally acknowledged.

He said: “The late Vice Principal demonstrated uncommon courage in the face of danger. He stood by his students. This act of bravery must not be forgotten. The Kebbi State Government should rename the school after him so that future generations will remember his heroism.”

Tajudeen urged security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue the abducted students and ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice, describing the attack as a national tragedy.

He extended his condolences to the family of the deceased, the management and staff of the school and the entire Kebbi education community.

The Speaker also appealed to the Federal Ministry of Education to work closely with security agencies to strengthen safety measures in all unity schools nationwide to prevent future occurrences.
