Pharmacist Pledges To Provide Healthcare For Enugu Retirees

Former Enugu State Commissioner for Labour and Employment, Mr Chika Ugwuoke, has pledged to partner Enugu State Government in providing healthcare needs for the retirees, civil servants and government appointees.

Ugwuoke, a pharmacist, made the pledge during the launching of Maxcare Pharmacy and Tulip Bodycare, in Enugu on Saturday.

The pharmacist, who is the Group Managing Director, Maxcare Group, said he and his wife, Dr Uju Ugwuoke, decided to bring their business outlet home to benefit people of the state.

He said the company which had pharmacy and beauty section would be collaborating with the Enugu State Government to reach out to the poor, the needy, retirees in the aspect of healthcare.

Ugwuoke added that being a commissioner offered him an opportunity to interact with people who had retired from service, adding that many of them were faced with different health challenges.

According to him, almost 100 per cent of all the pensioners are on one medication or the other and not all of them are financially buoyant to meet up with these health challenges.

“So, we will come out with schemes to help them. We are going to roll out a specific discount scheme for retirees, and even the civil servants.

“Through this scheme, those with chronic conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, arthritis, all those conditions will be attended to at reduced price.

“So, we are starting with pensioners who are part of the most vulnerable, move to the civil servants of particular levels and state appointees,” Ugwuoke.said.

The former commissioner commended  ex and serving government officials for attending the event, Ugwuoke revealed that the outlet was their 15th branch in Nigeria.

He explained that the outlet was significant because of its alignment with the vision of Gov. Peter Mbah administration which has prepared ground for businesses to thrive in the state.

He further disclosed that setting up its branch in Enugu was an opportunity to create jobs and boost the economy of the state which had become haven for businesses, appealing to residents to cooperate and support the business.

Speaking also, Managing Director, Tulip bodycare and wife of Ugwuoke, Dr Uju Ugwuoke, explained that Maxcare began in 2009 offering essential healthcare services to Nigerians by making its products more affordable and women look young and beautiful.

She equally explained that Tulip Bodycare started six years ago with Enugu Branch making it the sixth branch the company had opened.

Mrs Ugwuoke stressed that the company had different range of beauty care products that was genuine and affordable.

“We have wide range of product, our prices are the best. The prices will shock you and we have specialist to attend to our customers,” she said.

Inaugurating the outlet earlier, Mrs Ngozi Eni, the State Commissioner for Gender, Children Affairs and Social Development, hailed the family for bringing their investment home.

Eni expressed the hope that the business would solve the health and bodycare needs of the residents.

She, however, urged investors to come to Enugu, saying the state was open for genuine businesses with favorable environment. (NAN)
