Chelsea overcome Burnley in Premier League clash

Chelsea tightened their Premier League title challenge with a 2-0 win over Burnley on Saturday, moving to within three points of leaders Arsenal.

Pedro Neto gave the Blues the lead just before half-time at Turf Moor, while Enzo Fernandez secured the victory with an 88th-minute finish. The result lifts Enzo Maresca’s side to second place ahead of Arsenal’s clash with Tottenham on Sunday.

The win also marks Chelsea’s eighth victory in their last 10 matches in all competitions, adding to the significance of Maresca’s 50th Premier League game in charge. It comes ahead of a critical week featuring home fixtures against Barcelona in the Champions League and Arsenal in the league.

Despite controlling much of the match, Chelsea faced early setbacks. Cole Palmer missed the game after fracturing his toe, extending his injury layoff, while Moisés Caicedo was benched due to fatigue from international duty. There was also a brief scare when goalkeeper Robert Sánchez accidentally struck Fernández with the ball, requiring a quick concussion assessment.

Chelsea eventually settled, with Neto posing constant danger. He broke the deadlock in the 37th minute with a superb diving header from Jamie Gittens’ cross after Marc Cucurella initiated the move. Neto and Liam Delap both came close to extending the lead.

Burnley, who have now lost five of their last seven league games, wasted their best chance when Zian Flemming fired over from close range. Chelsea punished the hosts late on as Fernández capped a flowing move to make it 2-0.

The victory keeps Chelsea firmly in the title race, though they could drop to third if Manchester City secure at least a draw against Newcastle.
