‘Combat Erosion Of Social Values Caused By Greed, Dishonesty’ -Gov Dapo Abiodun Charges Corps Members

Prince Dapo Abiodun, the Governor of Ogun State, has charged the 2025 Batch C Corps Members deployed to the state to strive hard in combating the painful erosion of societal values caused by greed and dishonesty.

According to the Governor, the unwholesome development has hindered the progress of this great nation.

Governor Abiodun gave the charge in his speaking notes at the swearing in and commencement of three weeks orientation course programme for the 2025 Batch C Corps Members deployed to the state as he declared the ceremony held at the Permanent Orientation Camp within the Gateway International Stadium in Sagamu open.

Abiodun, who was represented by  Honourable Wasiu Isiaka, the Commissioner for Sports Development, challenged the corps members to step into the role of serving their fatherland  to uphold the ideas of the scheme and remain conscientious in the discharge of their assignment to make a difference and be agents of positive change.

“Your contribution is invaluable to the Gateway State, and it is a responsibility that you must carry with pride and diligence.”

He encouraged them to take seriously the various lectures, personal development programmes, and self-development skills initiated to harness the innovative, creative, and productive potential of core members during the service year.

He said, “The underlying idea is to encourage youth to focus on self-employment as a major post-service option.

“I encourage you once more to learn new skills and embark on new adventures. The National Youth Service Scheme provides a platform for youth to gain invaluable experiences.

“Indeed, one of the major reasons for its establishment was to foster unity. You have all traveled far and near to serve the nation. Let us build bridges across tribes, languages, and cultures as you forge lasting friendships during the orientation course and wherever you may find yourself thereafter.”

He paid glowing tributes to the founding fathers of the over five decades old scheme, saying since its inception, it has recorded tremendous success in sustaining and enhancing the community as a foundation for national unity, integration, and economic development.

Abiodun, who acknowledged the contributions made by corps members deployed to the state, affirmed that they have played significant roles in the health, education, and socioeconomic development sector, just as he appreciated their predecessors for leaving behind great footprints that have made the state better than they met it.

He appreciated the management of the NYSC in the state for successfully monitoring corps members and ensuring that they discharge their duty at their places of primary assignment.

Mrs. Olayinka Nasamu, the NYSC Coordinator in the state, informed the Governor, “As at the close of registration, a total of 2,778 Corps Members were registered comprising 1,109 males and 1,669 females.

“The breakdown is as follows: Ogun state registered 2,294 while 484 Corps Members were dislodged from Lagos state. I am pleased to report that they have so far conducted themselves responsibly and have adapted to the regimented life on camp.”

She reported that they have, so far, conducted themselves responsibly and have adapted fast to the regimented life in camp.
