Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to declare a state of emergency over the worsening security situation in Nigeria.
The plea comes as the nation continues to face violent attacks and abductions.
Reaction to Niger State Abduction
Atiku’s statement followed the recent abduction of over 50 students and staff from St. Mary Secondary School, Papiri, in Agwara Local Government Area, Niger State.
Terrorists reportedly invaded the school, sparking outrage and concern nationwide.
Criticism of Federal Government Response
In a post shared on his Facebook page on Friday, Atiku expressed sadness over the alleged inaction of the Tinubu-led federal government in tackling the country’s security challenges.
He questioned why decisive steps have not yet been taken to prevent further tragedies.
Heartbreaking Incident
Describing the recent abduction as “heartbreaking,” Atiku highlighted the human cost of repeated attacks across the country.
The former president urged the federal government to act swiftly and decisively to protect citizens and restore a sense of safety in the country.
He wrote; “Not again. This is truly heartbreaking. How many more lives must be shattered before decisive action is taken?
It is not too late for the government to finally declare a state of emergency in insecurity and confront this menace with the urgency it deserves.”
