African Fashion Designers Shine At Night Of Glamour And Awards


The Podium Event Centre transformed into a vibrant runway of African creativity yesterday as designers from across the continent gathered for an unforgettable evening of fashion, recognition, and celebration. Headlining the night were Labaleo Collections of Nigeria and Angelica Nvula of Angola, who clinched the coveted African Fashion Designer of the Year awards in the male and female categories.

The event opened with a dazzling black-carpet reception before guests were ushered into a dynamic fashion show showcasing the diversity, cultural richness, and innovation that define today’s African design landscape. The energy remained high as the runway gave way to the awards ceremony, where leading creatives were honored for their excellence and impact. The night concluded with a lively after-party that kept guests buzzing long after the final award was announced.

Several key industry figures were celebrated for their contributions. Linus Okorie and Keppy Ekpeyong received Lifetime Achievement honors, while celebrity stylist Ugochukwu George Igbokwu was named African Best Hair Stylist. Adetoun Onanobi was recognized as a Distinguished Humanitarian for her efforts in promoting health and sustainability. Other honorees included notable voices in journalism, filmmaking, art, design, youth empowerment, and cultural innovation, creating a tapestry of achievements that highlighted the breadth of African talent.

Additional recognitions were presented to creatives and industry leaders such as King VC Perez, Joy Makun, Queen May, Kelvin Ugwoudo, Yemisi Suleiman, Jide “Jblaze” Oyegbile, Elder Ernest Osadolor, Omoni Oboli, Ruth Kadiri Ezerika, Dr. Akin Faminu Emmanuel, Seyi Adekunle Vodi, Mudi Africa, Dare Aliu, Tokyo James, Bukonla Adebakin, Chude Jideonwo, Chef Gibbs, Ifeoma Okonkwo, Yasmin Belo-Osagie, Zainab Elias, Jennifer Imnion, Don Jazzy, WurlD, Omoyemi Akerele, Tokunbo Akerele, Blessing Obasi Nze, Yolanda Okereke, Denrele Edun, Anthony Awopetu, Temilade Oni, and others who have shaped the creative space in meaningful ways. Special creative impact recognitions from Johnnie Walker, Darling Hair Nigeria, and other partners added further prestige to the evening.

Designers and brands making significant strides in contemporary African fashion were also celebrated, including Joe Parson, Mak Africa, Rojuascent, 2207 by Tbally, Emmanuel Goodnews, Juma Jux, Priscilla Ojo Mkambala, Arnold Umole, Thomfelix Concept, Luxe by Annie, Kikelomo Solomon Ayeni, Blossoms Daniel, and the team behind Labaleo Collections, which earned additional accolades for its bespoke couture and impact in menswear fashion.

The event’s organizers expressed gratitude to partners whose support made the celebration possible, including the Lagos State Government, the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, DCIRCLE, Mysogi Ads, Darling Hair, Johnny Walker, Frutta Juice, Carloha Chery, WAWU Africa, Sozo Event, Assured Security Company, and many others who continue to champion African creativity.
