Nwifuru Applauds NGE, Reaffirms Ebonyi’s Commitment To Media Advancement

ABAKALIKI – Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru has commended the leadership of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) and reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to strengthening the media sector in the state.

Delivering the governor’s message at the recent induction ceremony for new NGE members, the Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Barr. Ikeuwa Omebe, noted that the administration has taken concrete steps to reposition the Ebonyi State Broadcasting Corporation (EBBC). He announced that the station has been revitalized and placed under the leadership of veteran journalist, Comrade Chief Tony Nwizi, who was appointed Director-General to help reposition the corporation to compete with leading media establishments.

Omebe highlighted Governor Nwifuru’s enthusiasm to host NGE stakeholders and members of the event’s standing committee in Ebonyi State, stressing that the administration’s achievements “speak for themselves.”

“There is a place where everything is working. There is a place where good governance is in place. That place is Ebonyi State,” he said.

Reaffirming the administration’s people-centred approach, the commissioner called on both local and international investors to take advantage of Ebonyi’s improving security and expanding infrastructure.

Speaking on behalf of the governor, Omebe celebrated the “giant strides and wonderful achievements” recorded within less than two years of the administration, extending an open invitation to stakeholders and development partners to visit the state and witness the progress firsthand.

According to him, the successes of the administration are anchored on the People’s Charter of Needs, a governance framework designed to ensure that government priorities reflect citizens’ most pressing needs.

“We allow the people to decide how they wish to be governed and which public amenities should be prioritized,” he stated.

Omebe also highlighted strides in pension administration, emphasizing that under the current government, no pensioner or retiree at either the state or local government level has been left unpaid since 1996.

On security, he explained that the state government has prioritized reconciliation, rehabilitation, and restoration as strategies for resolving communal disputes. He described Ebonyi as one of the safest investment destinations in Nigeria and encouraged investors to take advantage of the stable climate.

He further revealed that the state government has completed several projects initiated by the previous administration—including the state airport—and has expanded access to potable water for residents.
