The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has announced the arrest of a 27-year-old suspect, Umar Adamu-Umar, with cannabis worth over N10 million in Kano.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Sadiq Muhammad-Maigatari, confirmed that Adamu-Umar is a resident of Fagge Local Government Area.
He explained that the suspect was intercepted on August 6 along the Zaria–Kano Road by operatives attached to the Kiru Area Command.

He was allegedly transporting 19 parcels of Cannabis Sativa, weighing 9 kilograms, from Lagos to Kano.
“The suspect confessed to being involved in the illegal drug trade and had been under surveillance by the command for some time,” Muhammad-Maigatari said.

He explained that the arrest was a major breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking in the state, stressing that the interception had denied traffickers a huge financial gain.
According to him, “The seizure dealt a major financial blow to the trafficking network as it disrupted their supply chain and reduced funds available for further criminal activities.”
He added that the NDLEA’s actions were not only aimed at curbing the circulation of drugs but also protecting communities from the harmful effects of narcotics.
“Removing this quantity from circulation also helps protect vulnerable communities from the social and economic harms associated with the trade in narcotics,” he noted.
The spokesperson further assured that the Kano Strategic Command, under the leadership of Abubakar Idris-Ahmad, would intensify patrols across the state.
He added that the Command will also adopt more intelligence-led operations to dismantle trafficking syndicates.
He urged residents to support the agency by providing credible information to help combat drug crimes in Kano.
