Ahead of the 2027 general elections in Kwara state, stakeholders in Ifelodun local area of Kwara state weekend commenced a fence mending meeting aimed at resolving issues among key political figures in the local government with the aim of making them speak in one voice.
Convened by the Asiwaju of Oko and convener, Kwara South Development Initiative (KSDI), Dr Johnson Adewumi, the meeting held at Thomas Adewumi College, Oko- Irese was attended by many stakeholders.
Among them were the member representing Irepodun/Isin/Ekiti/Oke-Ero, of the House of representatives, Raheem Ajuloopin, former senatorial aspirant , Prof Wale Sulyman APC chieftain and former Commissioner for Information, Oloriewe Raheem Adedoyin and Special Assistant to the state’s governor on new Media, Olayinka Fafouloyi, among others.
Speaking with journalists at the sideline of the meeting, Adewumi who is also the proprietor, Thomas Adewumi University, Oko- Irese, said, “the essence of this meeting is to bring ourselves together to talk to ourselves to bury our differences and agree to work together in the best interest of our people.
He said, “those who have ambition can continue to pursue their ambition and be aspiring. When the time comes, we shall come together as a people to decide whatever we want to do.
“It’s about the collective interest of Kwara South, the collective interest of Ifelodun local government not individual personal interest and we shall come together to speak with one voice when the time is right.”
Also speaking, a chieftain of APC and former commissioner in the state, Chief Raheem Adedoyin, explained that all the attendees wanted a more unified Kwara South starting from Irepodun, adding that “our major focus is to make Irepodun and Kwara South better.”
Reacting to the observation that the All Progressives Congress (APC) slogan was being chanted in the course of the meeting, Oloriewe (as he is fondly called) said APC was striving towards perfection. ”Once we get it right in APC, we will get it right in Irepodun.”
On his part, Ajuloopin who admitted that there were “pockets of crises occasioned largely by misunderstanding”, however, expressed satisfaction that the meeting achieved intended purposes, saying “everyone spoke his or her mind, and thank God, we have resolved it.”
