A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), John Ayebabomote Birakumo, has stated that the detractors and political adversaries of the former Governor of Bayelsa State, Timiprye Sylva, are responsible for his current ordeal with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Naija News recalls that the EFCC recently declared Sylva wanted for an alleged case of conspiracy and dishonest conversion of $14,859,257.
This followed reports linking Sylva to the alleged sponsorship of a coup attempt against President Bola Tinubu’s government.
However, the former governor had denied all allegations and involvement in the alleged coup.
In a statement on Monday, Birakumo threw his weight behind Sylva.
According to Birakumo, the former Minister is facing political prosecution because his adversaries fear his influence in the country’s political landscape.
He said, “We are raising awareness to alert Bayelsans and the entire APC family that Chief Timipre Sylva remains a committed and visionary leader of the APC.
“We are undeterred by the politically motivated persecution of Chief Sylva, knowing full well it is orchestrated by his detractors and political adversaries who fear his monumental influence not only in the state but across the region and nation.
“Chief Sylva is a true democrat and statesman who has significantly contributed to Nigeria’s development.”
