Abia Hotels sealed after investors’ certificate of occupancy revoked

The premises of Abia Hotels, located on Finbers Road in Umuahia, Abia State, have been sealed by the Abia State government following the revocation of the Certificate of Occupancy granted to Investment Guarantee Ltd, a private company.

Security personnel were seen on Monday keeping watch over the facility.

A visit to the hotel on Monday evening showed security personnel guarding the premises.

A written notice was also boldly pasted on the main gate of the hotel, confirming that it had been sealed and retaken by the state government.

A government source who spoke to DAILY POST under anonymity said the presence of the security personnel at the hotel was to ensure law and order.

On Sunday, the Abia State government announced the revocation of the Certificate of Occupancy granted to Investment Guarantee Limited for a 25-year lease period.

The state government, which said the company had allegedly failed to fulfil the terms and conditions of the development lease agreement it signed with the state in 2013, noted that it had retaken the hotel from the investor.

It also accused the company of failing to upgrade and redevelop Abia Hotels to an agreed 3-Star standard, among other alleged breaches.
