The Vice Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Ethiope East Local Government Area, Mr. Ese Idisi, has been killed by unknown assailants.
According to Punch, the APC chieftain in the Ethiope East area of the state was killed on Saturday.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Delta State Police Command, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the murder of the Vice Chairman on Monday.
Though details of the incident were still sketchy at the time of this report, Edafe confirmed that the killing took place at Okpara Waterside community in the council area.
He said, “We got a report that he was murdered and we are presently investigating the incident.”
Meanwhile, the state chapter of the APC has expressed shock and devastation over the “brutal and condemnable killing” of Ese Idisi.
The state chapter of the party, in a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Mr. Valentine Onojeghuo, called on the police and other security agencies “to carry out a thorough, uncompromising, and professional investigation into this cruel and senseless murder.
“The perpetrators, sponsors, and anyone connected to this heinous act must be identified, apprehended, and brought to justice without delay. Nothing short of a full-scale investigation will suffice in the prevailing circumstances.”
The party commiserated with the family of the deceased, saying that his tragic passing has left a painful void not only in his home and community but also within the APC family in Ethiope East Ward 4.
Saying that Idisi was a loyal, committed, and dependable party man who contributed immensely to the growth of the party in Ethiope East, the statement said: “his death is not just a loss; it is a heavy blow that has plunged the Party into mourning.”
The party, however, rejected suggestions in certain quarters that the murder of Mr. Idisi has political colouration or internal party undertones.
“Delta APC categorically rejects suggestions in certain quarters that the murder of Mr. Idisi has political colouration or internal party undertones. Such insinuations are false, reckless, and capable of inflaming tensions at a time when sobriety, unity, and respect for due process are most needed.
“It is deeply disappointing that unfounded claims of this nature are being promoted while the family is in mourning and security agencies are still conducting investigations. No responsible individual rushes to judgment or makes inflammatory, premature assertions without verifiable facts. Such conduct is irresponsible and constitutes a disservice to the memory of the deceased,” the statement added.
