The expelled National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Samuel Anyanwu, has accused the immediate past factional national chairman of the party, Umar Damagum, of being responsible for the crisis rocking the party.
Naija News reports that Anyanwu made the comment following the party’s just-concluded national convention in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Recall that during the convention, the party leadership expelled the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory(FCT), Nyesom Wike, Anyanwu, and the former governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose.
While responding to questions in an interview on ‘Politics Today’, a programme on Channels Television on Monday, Anyanwu described the party convention as a jamboree and illegal.
According to him, Damagun is incompetent and he caused problems in Abuja.
He said, “Damagum is incompetent. He is the cause of the division in the PDP. When I heard somebody yesterday at the convention, when they were celebrating, having their jamboree, saying that we must obey the rules of the party, I laughed.”
Meanwhile, the Former Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, has formally stepped down as Secretary of the Board of Trustees of the PDP), citing zoning principles and the emergence of a new National Chairman from his geopolitical zone.
His resignation followed the election of former Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Kabiru Turaki, as the new PDP National Chairman at the party’s national convention in Ibadan over the weekend.
In his resignation letter dated November 17, 2025, and addressed to the BoT Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, Makarfi said his decision was grounded in long-held convictions about fairness and balance within the party’s leadership structure.
