Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has outlined his approach to managing Victor Osimhen, one of the most valuable footballers in the world.
The Galatasaray striker is currently valued at over €100 million, around N167.6 billion, following his record €75 million move to Turkey last summer.
‘I don’t see the €100m price tag’
Osimhen has scored 14 goals in 16 appearances for club and country this season, attracting interest from top European sides, including Barcelona. But Chelle insists the striker’s valuation does not influence his management style.
“When I am in front of the player, I don’t see the 100 million euros; I see the superstar you have to manage,” he said on the Impact by Tiguida podcast.

Building a safe, structured environment
Chelle emphasised the importance of establishing rules and a strong internal framework to help elite players thrive.
“When you arrive to take over a team, the first thing is to establish rules. We can’t live without rules because we all need to be safe,” he said.
“The most important thing was to put a framework around these players, all my staff, all my officials. There are 50 of us, so everyone feels safe and protected. Once you are protected, people can express themselves internally.”
‘It’s the man, not the superstar’
Despite calling Osimhen “the best striker in the world,” Chelle stressed that he focuses on the person behind the talent.
“He’s worth 100 million euros. For me, he’s the best striker in the world. It’s not the superstar that interests me; it is the man.”
Osimhen is expected to spearhead the Super Eagles’ frontline on Sunday when Nigeria face DR Congo in the African final of the 2026 World Cup qualifying playoffs.
