Chelle drops Akor Adams for crucial DR Congo clash

Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has confirmed two major changes to his lineup for tonight’s World Cup playoff clash against DR Congo in Rabat, with Gabon match goalscorer Akor Adams and full-back Bright Osayi-Samuel both dropping to the bench.

Onyeka, Ajayi return as Chelle prioritises midfield stability

Chelle has reinstated the same defensive setup used in the October win over Benin Republic, with Semi Ajayi returning to the XI after missing the semi-final through suspension.

Frank Onyeka also steps into midfield alongside Wilfred Ndidi, who was cleared to play after CAF ruled his caution against Gabon did not amount to a suspension.

Alex Iwobi continues in the advanced midfield role, maintaining the structure Chelle has relied on to bring control and balance to the playoff phase.

Osimhen leads attack as front three remain untouched

The final training session on Saturday showed no surprises, and tonight’s XI reflects a settled squad.

Victor Osimhen leads the line again, entering the contest with 31 goals in 45 international appearances and five goals in his last two games under Chelle.

He is supported by Samuel Chukwueze and Ademola Lookman, a frontline that has delivered pace, mobility, and end-product in recent fixtures.

Nigeria eye intercontinental playoff semifinals

A win tonight would send the Super Eagles into the semi-finals of the intercontinental playoffs, bringing them within one match of sealing a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after missing out in 2022.
