The National Agricultural Foundation of Nigeria(NAFN), has urged President Bola Tinubu to attend this year’s 17th edition of the Annual National Agricultural Show slated for November 24th–28th, along Keffi Road, Karu, Nasarawa State.
A release from Arc. Kabir Ibrahim,
Chairman, Board of Trustees, NAFN, said Mr. President’s presence at the five-day event, would not only strengthen and consolidate the overall agricultural ecosystem, but also would serve as a source of encouragement to smallholder farmers, small scale producers and all stakeholders in Nigeria’s agricultural space.
According to Ibrahim, “We look forward to welcoming Mr President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, when he graciously walks his talk on the “Agricultural Renewed Hope Agenda” on 25th November,2025 ,the official opening day of the 17th Edition of the Annual National Agricultural Show.”
He noted that the annual event would
enable smallholder farmers, researchers, farm machinery manufacturers, Federal Government Ministries and MDAs, State Governments as well as government institutions, food vendors and the general public to converge in one place for real time experience.
He said: “The event will bring together all stakeholders such as producers, technology providers, and buyers to share information on new technologies, methods, and regulations.
“Farmers will have the opportunity to also engage in peer-to-peer learning by sharing their own experiences and challenges.
“The show is a crucial avenue for displaying the latest advancements, products, and equipment, helping to drive innovation within the sector.”
As part of the benefits of the Agricultural Show, Ibrahim said it would also facilitate market opportunities by connecting producers with buyers and creating a marketplace for products and services.
This, he observed, would support local and national economic growth.
Continuing, he said:”The show will play a key role in educating the non-farming public about where their food comes from and the complexities of the agricultural process.
“For many farmers, the agricultural show will provide a valuable opportunity to socialise, build relationships, and break the isolation that can be part of agricultural life.
“The Show’s signature symposium highlighting the importance of inclusivity as always takes place at the Main Auditorium in the Show Ground at every edition from inception.
“The Agric Show event will foster community and a sense of shared experience.”
The Chairman, Board of Trustees, NAFN,
pointed out that Nigeria’s Agrifood system is going through a tremendous challenge at the moment and requires realignment around Commercial African Agriculture Program(CAADP), through the Hand-in-Hand Program evolved by the Food and Agriculture Organization(FAO) in collaboration with the German Cooperation(GIZ) , the Nigerian government through the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security and the private sector, including Nigeria Agribusiness Group(NABG),National Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture(NACCIMA) as well as numerous Agriprenuers such as Dangote Tomato(DANSA) to become sustainable.
“In line with the recent private sector investment call by the Minister of Agriculture, FMAFS organised by GIZ to herald the take-off of the Kampala declaration 2026-2035 on 1st January 2026 and the several windows,Mr President, Bola Ahned Tinubu, GCFR ,has opened to support Agricultural productivity ,which so far has produced a mixed bag of successes and failures, we urge more concerted efforts at reinvigorating Nigeria’s Agrifood System.
“The bitter pill of a 180 day zero tariff import window has significantly brought down food prices such that the farmers are groaning while consumers are expressing happiness with the state of affairs but for sustainability, there is every need to equally bring down the cost of inputs such as fertilizers and agro chemicals such as herbicides and insecticides.
“The purchasing power of the typical Nigerian and the Nigerian Naira have to also significantly improve for sustainable agribusiness which is sine-quo-non to a sustainably prosperous agricultural economy and by the same token Nigeria’s economic growth through enhanced non-oil sector export earnings.”
End.
