Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, intensified his legal battle on Sunday by taking a strong stand against perceived judicial irregularities.
He petitioned the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) against three judges Justices Binta Nyako, Haruna Tsammani, and Garba Lawal for alleged gross judicial misconduct.
In a strongly-worded petition personally signed by Kanu, he accused the judges of orchestrating a miscarriage of justice during his trial.

“The catalogue of infractions committed by these judicial officers now stand as an un-erasable blot on Nigeria’s legal conscience,” Kanu stated, urging the NBA to investigate and sanction the erring judges.

The IPOB leader, who has remained in detention at the Abuja headquarters of the Department of State Services (DSS) since his rendition from Kenya in June 2021, demanded broader reforms.
“NBA should publish a report condemning the use of civil procedures to subvert criminal law and the resurrection of repealed statutes. No Nigerian should ever again be detained by abduction or tried under a repealed law,” he said.
Kanu also stressed the need for accountability to restore public confidence in the judiciary.
“Errant judges must be held responsible to ensure that justice is not only done but seen to be done,” emphasising that the integrity of the Bar and Bench is critical for Nigeria’s democracy.
His petition, submitted through his lawyer, Umesi, coincides with the NBA’s ongoing meeting in Enugu, highlighting the urgency of addressing judicial misconduct.
