The ongoing national convention of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) may run into hitches with no favourable outcome as the crucial event is reportedly without an official representation by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The absence of INEC official was disclosed during a trending speech by Adamawa state governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri who also reportedly confirmed that INEC couldn’t send any of its officials to be present at the convention.
The governor also distanced himself publicly from the announcement that FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, and other party’s top shots have been expelled.
His counterpart and governor of Plateau state Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang in a statement through his spokesman Gyang Bere on Saturday night said at no time was the subject of expulsion discussed by the Governors Forum and at the National Executive Committee (NEC) before the motion was presented at the convention
Part of the statement said, “He emphasised that the proposal does not reflect his position on the matter.”
Governor Mutfwang further noted that, “expelling the party leaders at this crucial time is not a strategic step toward resolving the internal challenges currently confronting the PDP.”
He reiterated the need for unity, dialogue, and collective effort in rebuilding and repositioning the party.
