…as Fintiri, Mutfwang dissociate themselves
….Wabara says BoT did not recommend Caretaker Committee
Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has, in a swift reaction to his expulsion from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Saturday, described the PDP members who supported his removal at the party’s 2025 National Convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, as “intoxicated.”
Recall that the party had announced the expulsion of the FCT minister alongside Ayodele Fayose, the former Ekiti State governor, and others.
Those also expelled include Samuel Anyanwu, National Secretary; Umar Bature, National Organising Secretary; Adeyemi Ajibade; Mohammed Abdulrahman; and Mao Ohuabunwa.
The party also expelled Austine Nwachukwu, Abraham Amah, George Turner, and Dan Orbih.
Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Public Communications and Social Media to the FCT Minister, said in a statement that “they went to Ibadan to start dirty December in November.”

According to the FCT Minister, “When people decide to start their own dirty December in November, one can’t but ignore whatever comes out of their mouths.”
The expulsion came as some party members believed that the FCT Minister had been at the forefront of plans to destabilise the party ahead of the 2027 general election.
Wike had also been in the eye of the storm following his public declaration that he would work to ensure the re-election of President Bola Tinubu in 2027, despite still being a chieftain of the PDP.
Wike, it will also be recalled, had issued a statement on Friday warning his loyalists to stay away from the party’s convention in Ibadan.
According to him, “They gathered in Ibadan to do social party, enjoyed themselves and got intoxicated; they are free to say anything.”
His expulsion has, however, led to a sharp division at the top echelon of the PDP, as notable party stakeholders have dissociated themselves from the party’s action.
Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State, in a post on his X handle said, “I categorically state that I dissociate myself from the position of expelling the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, @GovWike , from @OfficialPDPNig (PDP).”
Fintiri, who is the Chairman of the National Convention Organising Committee (NCOC), said he believe that the decision is not in the best interest of the party, adding that “I will not be party to any attempt that could further plunge the PDP into unending crisis.
“As a faithful party member, my position is clear: I stand for the peace and stability of the PDP, and I will not support anything that could lead to its disintegration. I believe that peace and reconciliation are the only ways forward for our great party.”
Fintiri therefore, called on all “stakeholders to work towards healing the divisions within the party and to strive for unity and cohesion. As a party man, I am committed to supporting efforts that promote peace, stability, and progress within the PDP.

“Let me reiterate that my position is guided by the desire for peace and reconciliation, and I will continue to work towards achieving this goal.”
In a related development, Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State, has also distanced himself from the expulsion of Nyesom Wike and other PDP members.
The Governor in a statement issued by Gyang Bere, his director of Press and Public Communication, explained that the issue of expulsion was never discussed at the PDP Governors Forum nor at the National Executive Committee (NEC) before the motion was introduced.
“The Executive Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has formally distanced himself from the expulsion of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and former Governor of Rivers State, Barr. Nyesom Wike; former governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose; Samuel Anyanwu alongside other leaders of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP)”; the statement said.
He stressed that the proposal does not in any way represent his stance on the matter.
The governor described the move as “ill-advised and poorly timed, particularly at a moment when the PDP is battling internal challenges that require careful and strategic handling. According to him, such an action could further widen cracks within the party rather than aid efforts to restore stability.”
He emphasised that expelling prominent party leaders at this delicate period would be counterproductive to the broader objective of reconciliation.
Mutfwang also urged stakeholders to focus on actions that foster unity, build trust, and strengthen collaboration within the party.
Reafirmed his commitment to a cohesive PDP, Governor Mutfwang called for dialogue, patience and collective responsibility among members.
He expressed confidence that only through inclusive engagement can the party rebuild, reposition itself and regain its footing ahead of future political engagements.
Meanwhile, Adolphus Wabara, chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT), also dissociated himself and the BoT from the purported report of the BoT Reconciliation Committee being circulated in some sections of the media.
Wabara, also writing on his X handle, said the “BoT states in clear terms that the content of the said Report is not and does not represent the official position of the Board. Having not been considered or adopted by the BoT, it cannot in any form or guise whatsoever be regarded as the position of the BoT.”
According to him, “The BoT is unwavering in its endorsement of the conduct of the elective National Convention as scheduled on Saturday, 15th to Sunday 16th November, 2025 in Ibadan, Oyo State capital for the purpose of electing new set of leaders to pilot the affairs of the Party in the next four years.
“This position is guided by the Judgment of the Supreme Court which reaffirmed the supremacy of a political party in the conduct of its internal affairs.”
He saud the “BoT rejects any suggestion for a Caretaker Committee for the Party. Such idea cannot be contemplated as the Board and, of course the PDP, have irreversibly decided for an elective National Convention which is within the scope of the internal affairs of the party to which the courts have no jurisdiction.”
The BoT therefore urges Party members to remain committed and focused on the success of the Elective National Convention.
