Fresh tension broke out at the ongoing Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Elective National Convention in Ibadan after delegates noticed the absence of Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, and Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, from a massive PDP governors’ banner displayed at the venue.
Although Adeleke has not openly left the PDP, his continued political silence and his failure to appear on the banner have deepened speculation about his loyalty to the party.
Delegates from Osun State, who arrived in Ibadan on Friday, reportedly raised concerns when they observed that Adeleke’s image was missing from the large display mounted at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba.
Sensing the rising apprehension among the delegates, organisers quietly removed the banner from public view as the convention progressed.
As of the time of filing this report, it remains unclear whether Adeleke’s missing image was a mere oversight or a deliberate exclusion.
There was also no sign that delegates from Plateau State were present at the stadium, further fueling rumours of Governor Mutfwang’s likely absence.
Curiously, the banner featured Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, even though he had earlier indicated that he would not attend the convention.
Seats reserved for Rivers’ delegates were observed empty before and during the proceedings.
Only four governors were physically present at the event, underscoring the widening cracks within the party.
According to The Nation, the now-removed banner, boldly inscribed “PDP Governors,” displayed the images of:
Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri (Adamawa)
Bala Mohammed (Bauchi; Chairman, PDP Governors’ Forum)
Seyi Makinde (Oyo)
Siminalayi Fubara (Rivers)
Agbu Kefas (Taraba)
Dauda Lawal (Zamfara) and that of the National Chairman, Umar Damagum.
