Sony Pictures has reportedly struck a deal to develop a movie based on the popular Labubu dolls, which have sparked a global craze in 2025, according to Hollywood reports on Friday.
The film is in the early stages of development, and it has not yet been determined whether it will be live action or animated. Sony Pictures declined to comment on the project.
Labubus, created by China’s Pop Mart, became a phenomenon in 2025, attracting celebrity fans including Rihanna and Lisa from South Korean group Blackpink. The dolls are sold in “blind boxes,” leaving buyers unaware of the exact model until opened, fuelling collector excitement.
Sony Pictures, known for producing the Jumanji franchise and Netflix’s animated hit KPop Demon Hunters, is now turning its attention to bringing the toothy Labubu characters to the big screen.
